Fighting cancer with even more team spirit

Do it like Team Fledermaus (Bat) Disco. Team up with friends, colleagues or family and form a charity team, and you can make an even bigger difference at the KoRo Women's Race Berlin 2023. Together, you will collect donations from your networks for the hardship fund of the Berlin Cancer Society (Berliner Krebsgesellschaft), which will be used to financially support women with cancer.

Collecting donations so that women with cancer can celebrate life is the motto of Team Fledermaus Disco. After Mareike and Jana had several friends affected by cancer, they decided to found Team Fledermaus Disco last year.

Together with other friends and colleagues, they named their group after bats—since they are always there for each other! They found overwhelming support for their project from their networks. More than 5,000 euros were raised by the time the project was launched last year.

Training together and doing good

It's simply more fun to train together and then also to achieve so much good at the same time, says Kerstin from Team PG Hospiz. The nurse started last year as a duo with Mirja, a physiotherapist she works with. They wanted to participate in the KoRo Women's Race Berlin as motivation to exercise more. At the same time, Kerstin and Mirja witness every day the devastating effects of a cancer diagnosis at their jobs at the Paul Gerhard Hospice.

After the two of them happily crossed the finish line last May, the conclusion was clear: A sorrow shared is a sorrow halved—but fun shared is fun doubled. In 2023, the two will be back as a charity team, as will Team Fledermaus Disco and many other teams.

Every euro counts!

Every euro counts, emphasises Jana from Team Fledermaus Disco. One thing is clear: especially for women, the feeling of loss of control and worries about their own health are often compounded by financial hardships—especially if they can no longer work. With the hardship fund, the Berlin Cancer Society steps in quickly and unbureaucratically. For example, for new clothes after weight loss, medication or childcare.

Whether in pairs or in a large group—anything is possible

You can become a team with just two participants. You don't have to start in the same discipline or over the same distancenat the KoRo Women’s Race Berlin—each of you can participate however you would like. It also doesn't matter whether you join in in person on site on May 13, 2023 or take part virtually.

It's as simple as this:

  1. Register individually for the KoRo Women's Race Berlin (live or virtual).
  2. Set up a donation page on the website of the Berlin Cancer Society. https://www.berliner-krebsgesellschaft.de/frauenlauf/
  3. Motivate friends, family, colleagues & co. to donate for your team. Simply share the link to your team page via email, social media, etc.
